Show 08 Mark Oftedal

Oftedal Mark_Header
One of the most amazing animators I’ve ever known, and yet so approachable. It was such an honour and a pleasure to have Mark Oftedal as a guest on the show!
I feel like Mark always had a unique sense of appeal and design in posing, as well as movement… that seemed to be ‘built in’, however in this podcast he talks about his early struggles with animation which I find incredibly inspiring to hear. We chat about his winding career from the Simpsons to his most recent Directing role on Buggy Night for Moto X and Mark offers tons of great advise on crafting a great shot. Enjoy the show!

Another great podcast. Mark Oftedal thank you for doing the interview it was very insightful to hear about your experiences and thoughts on animation. Don’t stop sharing :) Sandra these podcasts are awesome. I’ve listen to a lot of animation podcasts and I’m noticing a definite style to these ones. They feel much more down to earth and less like across the table kind of interview. It really feels like we’re getting to the beating heart of each one of these animators and seeing what makes them tick.
Thank you for doing these and look forward to the next one!

I just finished listening to this podcast and my brain kind of exploded at 1h50m when he’s talking about visual patterns on different acting beats. I’m going to relisten to it again right away. Awesome stuff from both of you, keep it up Sandra! :D

Hi I just discovered The Toon Talks Podcasts I am enjoying them very much , I love the way you let your interviewees expand on their ideas and pretty much ask for the stuff I would want to know. Thank you very much, please keep them coming.

Awesome series you have going here! I searched everywhere for interviews with people like Mark Oftedal, etc… and I’m so glad I found this. You guys were talking about finding a book that teaches appeal in depth – I’ve been reading “Drawn to Life”, a collection of Walt Stanchfield’s lectures at Disney. It has tons and tons of information and examples regarding appeal and movement in gestures/poses. Stanchfield was a pretty witty writer so it’s not as dry as graphic design textbooks.
