I’m very grateful for the warm welcome I received at Cartoon Saloon & Tomm Moore’s openness to let me pick his animation brain!
During his final year at Ballyfermot in 1998, Moore co-founded the Cartoon Saloon animation studio with Paul Young. Since the studio’s opening Tomm has worked as Director, Art Director, Storyboard Artist, Animator and Illustrator for commercials to service work for feature films and TV series, short film projects as well as his own two (starting production on his third) feature films; the multi award winning ‘The Secret of Kells’ and the highly acclaimed ‘Song of the Sea’. Tomm talks about his experience working on both films and offers insightful advise on directing and storytelling. Fabian Erlinghäuser joins me part way through to answer the more precise questions about the art of animation. Fabian is the incredibly talented Animation Director on Song of the Sea and was Supervising Animator for The Secret of Kells.
I had heard so much about both animators and enjoyed their work for many years, it was really wonderful to meet them in person and get some advise about the process of animation. I’m sure you’ll find this podcast as beneficial as I do.
